FORMS & DELEGATION
The helpdesk should work for you...
|
| |
Forms & Delegation gives network administrators the ability to delegate specific user management tasks to helpdesk staff or other non-admins without giving them administrative privileges. These user management tasks can range from creating, editing and deleting users, to unlocking accounts, to resetting passwords. This gives network administrators the ability to re-focus their attention to other projects such as researching new technologies, coordinating migration projects, and installing/configuring new hardware and software that may otherwise fall to the wayside. Forms and Delegation makes the Helpdesk work for you in a new and efficient manner.
Forms & Delegation eliminates the need to develop manual procedures for delegating tasks to the helpdesk, it also eliminates the need for both MMC snap-ins and scripts. Using the forms client, the user is authenticated and based on the permissions set by the network administrator is allowed to make certain Active Directory changes, either en masse to multiple end user accounts, or on a one-off basis.

Simple and Secure |
| The perfect solution for any network administrator regarding task-based delegation of administrative user management tasks is our unique concept of forms; it is a technology that allows you to create a secure and seamlessly
adapted user interface that allows the helpdesk employee to perform only the tasks that you specifically assign them to perform. A form only contains the elements for a specific job and can be delegated to any Windows
user or group. |
 |
Example: Resetting Passwords |
| You would like your helpdesk employees to be able to select a user from Active Directory, or preferably, from a specific OU or group, then click a button to submit the selection. In the background, you want your form to authenticate the helpdesk user and approve the job, resolve the selected user account from Active Directory, edit the user account and apply a fixed password for the user account and display a confirmation message on the job status. |

 |
How does it Work? |
| The helpdesk user opens the forms client that connects to the User Management Resource Administrator delegation service. While the service has administrative privileges, the helpdesk employee does not. When the forms client connects, it authenticates the helpdesk user and downloads a list of the forms available to that specific helpdesk user. The helpdesk user then selects the form named “Reset Password”, selects a user account, and clicks on the submit button. The job is then approved by the delegation service and applied to Active Directory. |
 |
How Flexible is Forms & Delegation?
|
| Flexibility is one of User Management Resource Administrator’s biggest competitive advantages. The form architecture is based on form objects and visual scripts. The form objects are the items displayed on the user account, such as the table containing the users for whom the password must be reset, and the button to submit the job. When the job is submitted, the information specified by the helpdesk user passes through the visual script assigned to the form. This visual script, which may be composed of multiple building blocks called "script actions", needs to edit the selected user account and set a fixed password. If you would prefer the helpdesk user type in a password, simply add an input box to the form, pass the information from the input box to the script action and link it to the password property. It is that easy.

Is it better than native Active Directory Delegation?
|
| Active Directory in Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 offers object-based delegation of authority. Administration and management of this system is time-consuming and does not produce a clear overview of delegated permissions. Furthermore, it does not work on Windows NT4 or Exchange 5.5 based environments. See why Forms & Delegation is better than Windows delegation. Take

What does it look like?
|
| The screenshot below shows a sample form loaded into the Windows forms client. This form has been specifically designed to create a new user account based on the users name properties, and then assign group memberships and OU location based on the department. More screenshots. |
